OK. Melanie just finished talking to you about the food in Taiwan, and it started to make my mouth water, so here is a bunch of the things that I loved.

Breakfast -- (The yummiest meal of the day).

Mantou -- pronounced "mahn toe". They are a funny rubbery bread thing. Very good.

Mantou jia dan -- "mahn toe jaw dawn" -- same as above but with an egg in the middle.

Danbing -- "Dawn Bing" -- egg pancake that you can dip in hot sauce... so good.

Mantou jia danbing -- "mahn toe jaw dawn bing" -- not to hard to guess. A mantou with a danbing in the middle.

Youtiao -- "Yo Tee Ow" -- deep fried bread that looks like a stick. Very good. Especially good with Soybean Milk -- once you develop the taste for it.

Any flavor drink or Milk -- Papaya, Mango, Strawberry, plain Malt, it's all good.

Lunch or Dinner

By now I'm sure you've realized that the staples are rice and noodles. Fan - meaning rice and Mian -- meaning noodles.

Here's some delicious meals.

Jia li fan -- "jaw lee fahn" rice with a curry topping could be chicken or pork. Very good.

Chao fan, chao mian -- I'm sure you already know, fried rice and fried noodles.

Shui jiao -- Chinese dumplings. I think you probably know this one too.

Huo guo -- "hhh-wo ggg-wo" cool place to go if they are still around. It translates to Fire Pot. The concept is there is a pot in the middle of the table where you can add meat and vegetables to. Normally, all-you-can-eat.

Bing -- Flavored ice. Like a snow cone. You might see these shops every now and then. Very good for those hot days.

Here's a tip -- If everything still operates like it did when I was there, the missionaries should know all the good places to eat. We always ate out.

Foods not to eat

Chou Dou Fu -- "cho doh foo" -- Stinky Bean Curd. It tastes as bad as it smells.

Pi Dan -- "pee dahn" -- Nasty smelling, hard boiled egg. I thought it was gross.

Hong Dou -- "Red Bean" -- Yucky bean that they eat for deserts. They even have Red Bean flavored popsicles.

Asparagus Drink -- Good going down, revolting aftertaste.

Taiwan Beer -- OK. I never tried that one.

Binglang -- "bing lahng" -- Beetlenut. This is also against the Word of Wisdom. It's hard to explain. It's kind of like tobacco. Really stinky.

I tried calling you this morning, but could not get through. I'm still not positive I have the right number. I get this Chinese lady saying something quite crazy. I'll try again some other time.

Travis, thanks for the information relating to what they are likely eating there or will likely eat. It doesn't sound bad. Maybe they won't like potatos anymore when they get home?
